Scholarship Award
At Trott & Duncan we strongly believe in the importance of supporting young Bermudians who aspire to a career in the legal profession. It takes hard work and commitment, but the practice of law is an exciting, challenging and rewarding career.
The Educational Scholarship Award was founded in 2007 in honour of Ms Shirley D Simmons, a consultant with the firm. A trailblazer for women in the legal profession, Ms. Simmons is one of the most senior and highly regarded members of the Bar Association in the jurisdiction.
The Scholarship Award is intended to support those who have a strong desire and show true dedication to pursuing a career in law.
Successful candidates receive:
- A $10,000 bursary to contribute to their ongoing educational development.
Scholarship Award 2010
Trott & Duncan is pleased to announce that it is now accepting applications for the 2010 Scholarship Award from Bermudian Student who aspire to a career in the legal profession. This award is in honour of Ms. Shirley D. Simmons. Applicants must submit proof of acceptance into or enrollment at a law school or post-graduate vocational law course.
Applicants will be invited to interview with the Trott & Duncan Scholarship Award Committee during the month of August 2010.
A candidate will be selected based on academic qualifications and/or achievements, academic and personal references as well as his/her performance at the interview.
The Scholarship Award offers the successful candidate a $10,000 bursary to contribute to his/her ongoing educational development.
Applicants must submit the following documents electronically to info@td.bm:
- A covering letter indicating why the Scholarship Award Committee should grant the Scholarship Award to you;
- A copy of an acceptance letter or current transcripts;
- An up-to-date curriculum vitae;
- A copy of proof of Bermudian Status.
All documents must be submitted on or before the 28th July, 2010.
The winner will be announced by the 31st August, 2010.

2008 – Shannon Dyer
Shannon Dyer, of Sandys Parish, was the successful recipient of the 2008 Shirley D.Simmons Educational Scholarship Award. Shannon graduated from Morehouse College, in Atlanta, in 2007 and started his Graduate Diploma in Law at BPP Law School, in London, in September.
"Shannon showed passion and a strong commitment to a career in law and stood out, amongst the other candidates, to the scholarship committee.
